About Saint James

It's fun being a kid at St James!

Children and youth growing and exploring

The greatest gift you can give your children is the gift of faith. At St James, we want our children to grow up knowing Jesus and secure in their relationship with God. In addition, we're aware that research has shown that children with a religious background are better able to make wise life choices.

Children

Our Sunday school program for kids aged 3 through 6th grade uses a lectionary-based program, with children learning about the same stories that they hear in church each week. It runs thoughout the school year, with special activites on holiday weekends. In addition to classroom learning, annual activites inclide Advent wreath making, pretzel making in Lent, and the Christmas pageant. An enrollment form can be found here; please print, fill in, and mail to the the Church Office at 490 North Country Rd, St James NY 11780.

Youth

Our youth program for kids in grades 7 through 12 runs concurrently with Sunday School and Adult Education.

In addition, we hold a number of youth events throughout the year. These include fundraisers for charities and to support the youth program, a car wash and pancakes, day trips, and Christmas visits to UCP (United Cerebral Palsy of Suffolk) group homes.

Confirmation

Confirmation is the ritual in which as (young) adults we take on the vows made on our behalf in baptism. To be eligible, candidates must be active members of the congregation, at least 16 years of age (or turning 16 by the date of confirmation), and participate in confirmation preparation classes.
