About Saint James

The Anglican Communion

The world-wide Anglican Communion comprises over 80 million members in 44 regional and national member churches around the globe in over 160 countries. It is headed by the Archbishop of Canterbury, who is regarded as the "first among equals"; rather than having formal authority (as the Pope does in the Roman Catholic Church), he functions as a focus of unity, spokesperson, and spiritual leader.

Part of a Bigger Church

At St James, we are just one local part of a wider church. We're one of 143 parishes in the Diocese of Long Island, which spans Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau County, and Suffolk County. The Diocese of Long Island is one of the 109 dioceses of The Episcopal Church, which is in turn part of the world wide Anglican Communion. And of course, we are connected with Christians of every tradition throughout the world by virtue of our shared faith in God through Jesus Christ.
