Worshipping and praying
Worship and prayer are at the center of our life together at St James. We are known locally as "the church with the open doors" - our church doors are wide open weekdays from 9am-4.30pm for those who wish to come in and pray. As well as the usual formal worship services, we offer yoga classes as another way to meditate upon Christ.

‘You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honour and power,
for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.’ (Revelation 4:11)
Sunday morning worship is the central focus of life at St. James. We have two services; the early one is smaller and more meditative, and usually follows the Rite 1 (more traditional) order from the Book of Common Prayer for the Eucharist. The later service is more lively, with enthusiastic congregational singing and a large band of acolytes, and usually follows the Rite 2 (more contemporary) order from the Book of Common Prayer. The sermon is an important part of our worship; the tradition at St James is thoughtful and substantive preaching at both services that connects our faith with our lives. Children, including babies, are warmly welcomed as full participants at all our services; there are activity bags available at the back of the church for younger children who need some extra entertainment! (We also have a well-equipped nursery, which parents are welcome to use).
In addition to Sunday morning services, we occasionally schedule other services, usually in the evenings, either seasonally or for special events.
